Sanya to hold ethnic activities to celebrate Sanyuesan Festival
In celebration of the Sanyuesan Festival, also known as the March Third Festival, a series of cultural activities will be held in Sanya on April 7th and 8th, 2016.
The festivities will begin with a gala show featuring Li and Miao minority dances and songs held at the National Middle School at 8:30 p.m. on April 7th.
Other events such as a Li and Miao brocade weaving and embroidery competition, a traditional ethnic athletic competition, and a photo exhibition reflecting the vibrant life of Sanya’s ethnic minority communities, will be held at the school on the following day.
The Sanyuesan Festival is the largest traditional festival of the Li and Miao minorities in Hainan Province. The festival takes place on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month of each year. It is also a special day for boys and girls to express their love through singing and dancing competitions. Therefore, the festival is also sometimes referred to as “Valentine’s Day” for the Li and Miao people.
