2017 Sanya Global Wedding & Honeymoon Island Forum kicks off
The opening ceremony for the 2017 Sanya Global Wedding & Honeymoon Island Forum was held at The Sanya EDITION on July 18th.
Welcoming speech by Bao Jian, Executive Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government:
Sanya is the only tropical coastal tourist city in China. It is also a strategic pivot point on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which is part of China’s Belt and Road initiative. Sanya stands at the forefront of China’s opening up policy. Boasting excellent tourism resources such as ample sunshine, clear sea water, beaches, forests, hot springs, natural caves, and countryside scenery, Sanya is an ideal holiday paradise. The city has been hailed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as “the tip of the tourism pyramid in China.”
In recent years, fueled by the construction initiative of “Hainan International Tourism Island”, Sanya’s tourism industry has been in rapid development, featuring increased tourism options, ever-improving tourism facilities, and upgraded management. In 2016, the city received 16.156 million overnight tourists, including 449,000 from overseas.
Sanya is one of the most livable cities in China. It is also known as “the city that exports sunshine and air to the world.” With green mountains, clear water, and flowers that blossom year round, Sanya enjoys annual sunshine duration of more than 2,400 hours, and a forest coverage rate of 68 percent.
Over the past two years, Sanya has pushed an “ecological restoration and city revamping” development plan that aims to further improve the city’s natural environment and speed up construction of a “boutique international tropical seaside tourism city.” The city is now taking on a new, vital look.
Sanya is a romantic city full of happiness. As the first city in China to roll out a wedding destination marketing strategy, Sanya has achieved rapid growth in the wedding tourism market via its holistic tourism development plan. The city now offers a variety of featured wedding products and services by integrating its wedding tourism resources which has garnered considerable attention for the city.
According to incomplete statistics, in 2016, Sanya received some 300,000 couples who had their wedding photographs taken in the city, and over 10,000 couples who visited Sanya on their honeymoons, generating tourism consumption of more than 8 billion yuan. Sanya is going on its way to become a “wedding and honeymoon capital” of the world.
The GWHI forum provides a good platform for all of us to strengthen exchange and cooperation. We hope that by taking this opportunity, we will learn from each other, communicate with each other and make a fast progress together with our friends from all over the world, so as to build our beautiful islands into new world-level wedding tourism destinations.
Speech by Xie Qiuxiong, Head of the Domestic Development and Marketing of Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Commission:
Hainan boasts unique wedding tourism resources. In recent years, the Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Commission has attached great importance to the development of the wedding tourism industry, and introduced measures to promote its development. Fueled by the “Hainan International Tourism Island” construction initiative, and the goal of building Hainan into a model province for holistic tourism, the province is on its way to perfecting its wedding tourism sector by accelerating structural reform, balancing supply and demand, and enriching wedding tourism products.
In recent years, as China’s tourism industry has developed, wedding tourism has enjoyed rising popularity. A variety of wedding tourism products combining wedding photography and tourism have sprung up and stimulated the growth of the tourism market. Hainan, which serves as a pilot zone for China’s tourism reform and innovation as well as a pioneer in China’s wedding tourism market, has gained a reputation as a “wedding and honeymoon destination” among young soon-to-be newlyweds nationwide. Hainan’s wedding tourism sector continues to develop rapidly and to exert expanding influence on the region thanks to the support and effort of the whole community.
As the first city in China to roll out a wedding destination marketing strategy, Sanya has long stood at the forefront of Hainan’s tourism development. A number of major wedding events have been held in Sanya, including the 2012 Sanya Destination Wedding Fashion Week, the 2013 and 2016 Sanya Destination Wedding Expo, the 2014 Sanya Wedding Tourism Products Release Conference, the Sanya High-end Destination Wedding Forum, the 2015 Sanya Wedding Industry Conference, and the 2017 Wedding Tourism Industry Conference. By integrating wedding and tourism resources, market channels, and platforms, these wedding events have helped strengthen Sanya’s wedding tourism brand and promoted its leading role in China’s wedding tourism market.
The GWHI forum is a grand wedding and tourism gathering and it provides a good platform for enterprises to strengthen exchange and cooperation. The local government aims to build it into a high-end wedding tourism mega event, which will help strengthen Sanya’s destination wedding tourism brand and further promote its role in the world’s wedding tourism market, as well as accelerate the construction of Hainan International Tourism Island.
Following the opening ceremony, representatives from the 20 best wedding & honeymoon island countries and regions delivered keynote speeches, with topics covering on the destination wedding planning, combination of wedding celebrations & tourism, high-tech manufacturing promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, customer analysis and related wedding packages and services, etc.
The forum also established the GWHI organization, which provided a platform to exchange and communication between Hainan and other global wedding and honeymoon destination islands. Wedding enterprises are encouraged to collaborate with each other by integrating wedding and tourism resources, market channels and platforms, to build a brighter future and more thriving development in the wedding tourism industry around the world.
