Sanya invited to attend 8th TPO General Assembly in S. Korea
A four-member delegation led by Shin Yeon-sung, Secretary General of the TPO (Tourism Promotion Organization for Asian-Pacific Cities) visited Sanya and met at the Sanya Resident and Visitor Information Center with Mr. Zhong Conghui, Vice Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, on June 26th, 2017.
Secretary-General Shin spoke highly of Sanya’s tourism environment and the rich array of tourism products available for Korean tourists. He welcomed Sanya to participate in the 8th TPO General Assembly in the South Korean coastal city of Tongyeong this October.
Mr. Shin also expressed his hope that Sanya would work together with the TPO and offer advice and suggestions for the development of the TPO and the Asia-Pacific tourism.
Mr. Zheng said that as an international tourist resort city, Sanya has opened 19 international air routes with 52 international flights per week. In October 2015, Sanya established a special police force targeting irregularities in the tourism industry. The tourism police unit, the first of its kind in the country, is in charge of tourists’ security and safety. The city is dedicating to providing global tourists a sound and safe tourism environment and services at a high standard of quality.
Mr. Zheng also expressed his hope that Sanya will strengthen tourism cooperation and exchange with Tongyeong City. He said that Sanya is willing to work closely with other TPO member cities with the goal of expanding the tourism market in the Asia-Pacific region in general.
The TPO, an international tourism organization designed to facilitate inter-city cooperation and the development of regional tourism industries, has 77 city members and 38 industry members in 10 countries and regions.
The TPO General Assembly is convened every two years. Its secretariat is located in the South Korean port city of Busan.
Sanya became a TPO member in 2004 and played host to the 7th TPO General Assembly in Haitang Bay from May 28th to 29th in 2015.
