'Champion Glory China Tour' arrives in Sanya for sports carnival
On October 27th, a fire collection and torch relay ceremony — a crucial part of the 2019 Hainan Beach Sports Carnival — was held in Sanya.
Ten Olympic champions participated in the torch relay. After the Sanya section of the relay, the torch will continue to be passed on among 2,022 torchbearers, finally reaching Beijing, the host city of the Winter Olympics, in 2022.
The fire was started by rubbing sticks, a primitive way of starting fire by Li People in Hainan Province. The fire was collected by Xu Yunli, Olympic champion in volleyball.
The torch bearers in Sanya included Zhang Ning, Olympic champion in badminton, Sang Xue, Olympic champion in diving, Qian Hong, Olympic champion in swimming, Li Ting, Olympic champion in tennis, Jia Zhanbo, Olympic champion in shooting, Li Xiaoxia, Olympic champion in table tennis, Wang Zhen, Olympic champion in race walking, Liao Hui, Olympic champion in weightlifting, Lu Chunlong, Olympic champion in trampoline, as well as city leaders and citizen representatives.
On October 27th, 2019, the torch was finally passed to the evening gala of the 2019 Hainan Beach Sports Carnival and the “Champion Glory China Tour,” which was held in Dadonghai on the same day, in celebration of Hainan’s international tourism resort development over the past ten years and the upcoming 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya.
Hainan is the ninth stop on the “Champion Glory China Tour,” following Beijing, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Anhui, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and other regions. The tour aims to promote nationwide fitness with the help of the influence of major sports stars. The Hainan leg of the tour will include stops in Sanya, Changjiang, Haikou, Ledong, Wanning, and Qionghai.
