World top kickboxers competed in 2 Kunlun Fight events in Sanya
Kunlun Fight, one of the world’s top kickboxing promotions, continued to spread kickboxing fever in Sanya with two back-to-back events — Kunlun Fight MMA9 and Kunlun Fight 57, both held at Mangrove Tree International Convention Center on February 25th and 26th.
Kunlun Fight MMA9 took place on February 25th. In that night’s event, former Kunlun Fight champion Zhang Lipeng clinched his 12th straight win with a victory over former UFC lightweight Hermes Franca.
Meanwhile, one of China’s top female MMA fighters, Zhang Weili, nabbed her 11th straight victory when she fought against Brazilian prospect Nayara Hemily at Kunlun Fight MMA9.
On the following day, Thai star kickboxer Yodsaenklai Fairtex returned to Kunlun Fight 57 after more than one year off due to an injury, and picked up a win over Russian fighter Saifullah Hambahadov.
In the evening’s tournament action, Mohamed Mezouari and Andrei Kulebin qualified for the field of 16 in the 2017 Kunlun Fight 70-kilogram with two victories in one night. Mezouari dispatched Arman Hambaryan in the semifinals and stopped Danilo Zanolini with a strong left body kick in the finals. Belarusian Andrei Kulebin defeated Belgium’s Ali Makhi and China’s Kong Lingfeng to qualify for the biggest tournament in combat sports.
Chinese national free fighting champion Ye Xiang made a successful kickboxing debut by knocking out WBC Muay Thai heavyweight world champion Steven Banks. Local fighter Wei Ninghui started his 2017 campaign off with a victory over Thai talent Kompetch Fairtex in the 65 kilogram weight class.
