Tianyahaijiao Scenic Spot(The End of the Earth)

Updated: 2018-04-07 13:54:46

Tianya Haijiao (meaning “the edge of the sky and the rim of the sea”) lies below Xiamaling Hill, about 50 kilometers west of Yalong Bay. In ancient times, Hainan Island was a place where exiles were sent, because there was little means of transportation and only scattered inhabitants on the island. When the exiles of ancient times came here, they found themselves with no way out, and little to do but stare out at the sea. The writings of ancient scholars and poets recorded many tragic ends here. Odd rocks stand erect against the azure sky, and coconut trees sway in the breeze near the sea. The scenery of this place is truly enchanting.

On the beach is a giant rock, on which is carved the Chinese characters for Tianya (“the edge of the sky”). Beside it is a reposing rock carved with the characters Haijiao (“the rim of the sea”). To the left of the rocks is another huge, cone-shaped rock with the Chinese words “column of the southern sky,” which indicates that here is the southern end of the motherland.

For tourists who wish to have a slow way to enjoy their journey and look closer to the tropical nature life at Tianya Haijiao Scenic Spot, a sightseeing train service is also available at the scenic spot.

This sightseeing railway route 0.44 kilometers long and starts from the Yongjing Railway Station. Tourists can take the sightseeing train while enjoying the nice view along the way.
