A delegation of representatives from 19 British travel operators arrived in Sanya for a study tour of tourism resources in the city and in Hainan Province. The tour was aimed at familiarizing the officials with Hainan’s new visa-free policy, and at further strengthening cooperation between the two regions on development in the tourism market.

The trip by the overseas travel operators was part of preparatory work for the launch of Sanya-London direct flights, which will begin service on July 12th.

On June 5th, 2018, a Hainan tourism promotional meeting was held in Sanya. In attendance at the event were local government authorities including Wang Ke, Director of the Inbound Tourism Division of the Hainan Tourism Development Commission; Tang Sixian, Consulting Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission; representatives from China Southern Airlines; and local hospitality providers and travel operators from the UK.

With a focus on integrated marketing, the promotional meeting gave attendees a look at Sanya’s unique tropical charm as a tropical seaside resort, and Hainan’s recent tourism development. Meanwhile, the details of the new Sanya-London air routes to be launched by China Southern Airlines were also announced at the event.

Andreas Kramer, General Manager of the InterContinental Sanya Resort, in attendance at the meeting, stated that, as a member of the British Tourism Products Marketing Alliance, the hotel will introduce Sanya to British tourists through its highly competitive room prices in combination with new, enticing air travel offers by China Southern Airlines. The hotel will work to develop quality parent-child tour products that can compete with those in the Southeast Asian region to increase the city’s appeal as a vacation destination to British travelers.

John Millen, Sales Manager of the Trailfinders, the largest independently owned travel company in the United Kingdom, said, “Sanya is an ideal tourism market for us and a popular vacation destination due to its many charms, including its beautiful tropical scenery, high-quality tourism facilities and services, as well as its wide variety of tourism products. We think the new visa-free travel entry program will be a great selling point for Sanya, and will help attract greater numbers of British tourists.”

Mr. Yang Jian, General Manager of a London-based Chinese Travel Agency, in attendance at the meeting, noted that Sanya is highly attractive to overseas Chinese in London. The travel agency plans to make Sanya the first stop ona multi-destination itinerary for overseas Chinese who wish to visit relatives in China via the Sanya-London air route.”

Mr. Tang Sixian added that the new Sanya-London direct flights to be launched this July, which are the result of years of Hainan tourism promotion efforts in the UK, will help to develop Sanya’s 12-hour tourism circle.

In recent years, Sanya has worked to promote itself as an international tropical seaside tourist destination in the British market by hosting international cultural and sports events such as Miss World and the Clipper Round-The-World Race, as well as by launching tourism promotional conferences in the UK.
