Billions spent to restore the old Hainan West Ring Railroad
A ground-breaking ceremony for the Hongtang Bay Station Site of the Hainan West Ring Railway Road Restoration Project (Supporting Transportation Infrastructure) was held in Sanya on November 25th, 2019.
The project is a key provincial transportation infrastructure project funded by the Sanya government and a key project for the Greater Sanya tourism economic circle. The whole project is planned to be completed within two years.
With total investment of nearly RMB 5.9 billion, the Hainan West Ring Railway Road Restoration Project will stretch a length of 106.27 kilometers. There will be a total of 14 stations along the route. They are Lingtou/岭头站, Liguo/利国站, Longqi Bay/龙栖湾东站, Zhenhai/镇海站, Sanya Sci-tech City/三亚科技城站, Hongtang Bay/红塘湾站, Yazhou/崖州站, Nanshan North/南山北站, Tianya Haijiao/天涯海角站, Phoenix Airport/凤凰机场站, Sanya/三亚站, Jianfeng/尖峰站, Huangliu/黄流站 and Ledong/乐东站.
The restoration railway will connect Sanya’s city center and passenger distribution hubs including the Sanya Airport, Hongtang Bay, Yazhou District, Tianya Haijiao Scenic Spot, and Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone. During the peak hours, the trains are expected to run in pair every 7.5 minutes. The travel time from Sanya Station to Lingtou Station will be 85 minutes. The new railway will also improve intercity connections with major attractions in Ledong County. Upon its completion, the project will help ease traffic pressure between stations along the route and facilitate travel for travelers.
