Sanya Airport becomes designated port for importing seafood
Sanya Phoenix International Airport has been selected as one of China’s first batch of 46 designated ports of entry for imported edible aquatic animals, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ).
Sanya Phoenix International Airport is the only port in Hainan to be qualified to import edible aquatic animals including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.
The airport has been allowed to import edible aquatic animals since the end of 2015. As of the end of July 2016, 114 batches of edible aquatic animals valued at $934,000 U.S. dollars and weighing 30.3 tons had been imported via the Sanya Phoenix International Airport. Imported species included wild lobster and mantis shrimp from Malaysia and Indonesia.
The new designation means that more quality seafood can be imported into Hainan via the Sanya Phoenix International Airport, and logistics costs and transit time can be reduced to ensure seafood freshness. The new regulation further enriches the aquatic animal market in Hainan and brings more seafood choices for locals and tourists in Hainan.
