A tourism delegation led by Xu Zhenling, Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal Government, paid a courtesy visit to Penang, Malaysia to forge closer ties between the two cities on April 11th, 2017.
During the visit, the Sanya delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang. The two sides exchanged promotional experiences and potential discussed cooperative efforts that could benefit both regions.
Xu Zhenling and the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) President Datuk Patahiyah Ismail signed a “Friendly City Relations Memorandum of Understanding” between the two cities.

Xu also expressed her hope that the Penang state government might encourage Penang’s well-known tourism and business enterprises to attend the 2018 Hainan International Tourism Expo next January to better promote its splendid culture and unique tourism products to the Chinese public.
During the stay, Xu also met with Mr. Law Heng Kiang, the Penang State Executive Councilor and the President of the Penang State Tourism Development Committee. The two sides conducted an in-depth discussion about business, culture, and tourism links between the two cities.
Law Heng Kiang also officially invited the Sanya delegation to participate in the 2017 Penang Tourism Attractions Carnival in September and October as well as the Penang Bridge International Marathon in November so that Sanya can better promote its rich tourism resources, unique folk culture, and diverse food scene to the Penang people.
