Sanya issues blue alert as tropical storm to bring heavy rains and winds
At 10:00 p.m. on July 1st, 2019, the Sanya Meteorological Observatory issued a blue typhoon alert in response to a tropical storm which is approaching the coastal areas of eastern Hainan.
At 8 p.m. Monday, a tropical depression was centered 320 kilometers east-south of Qionghai City. It is moving westward towards the Hainan Island with a speed of 10 kilometers per hour and is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm around Tuesday night.
The tropical storm is expected to make landfall in the coastal areas of eastern Hainan Tuesday night or early morning on Wednesday, according to the Sanya Meteorological Observatory.
The Sanya Meteorological Observatory said the city will see strong winds of up to 80 kph as well as heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours and urged relevant departments to prepare for possible floods, mudslides and other geological disasters. All fishing boats are ordered to return to harbor by Tuesday.
