The Sanya International E-sports Theme Park will cover a planned land area of 742,500 square meters on Xinhong Road, Jiyang District, with total planned investment of RMB 4.789 billion. The project will feature 10,500 apartments capable of housing 40,000 people. The aim is to build a mixed-use residential and shopping area that will be the first of an e-sports entertainment chain.

The project will look to tap Hainan’s recently announced special development fund worth over RMB 1 billion, earmarked to attract e-sports events and businesses.

The fund is part of a range of measures being introduced to develop the city’s e-sports industry, including a special subsidy of RMB 10 million related to e-sports events, a “Thousand Talents” plan to reward e-sports athletes with scholarships, and a simplified and expedited approvals process from local authorities for e-sports events.
