Smart safety system at crosswalks in Sanya to reduce accidents
Two crosswalks in Sanya have been installed with warning lights that warn drivers to slow down when there are pedestrians crossing the road, the Sanya Traffic Police Department said.
One crosswalk is located at the road intersection in front of Linchunling Park. The other is located at the road intersection by Sanya No. 2 Primary School.
The system, which is the first of its kind in Hainan Province, uses a pedestrian differential detector, an intelligent controller, and LED road lights.
When a pedestrian is crossing the road, a differential detector sends signals to an intelligent controller. The control circuit processes the signals and then send a triggering signal to the LED road lights on both sides of the crosswalk. The LED road spikes then begin flashing to warn pedestrians and vehicles. The system aims to reduce traffic accidents near zebra crossings.
In the future, the system will be put into use in more places throughout the city if the results are satisfactory, according to the Sanya Traffic Police Department.
