50 award winning travel routes adding to Greater Sanya Tourism
On September 28th, 2019, the awards ceremony for the First Greater Sanya Tourism Product Creative Design Competition was held. The competition’s theme was “best trips for discovering Greater Sanya.” At the event, 50 travel routes were awarded the title of “boutique travel route for discovering Greater Sanya.” Over the next two years, the 50 travel routes will serve as the main tourism products used to publicize Greater Sanya in both domestic and foreign markets.
The routes are classified into 20 tourism categories: sightseeing, holiday, cruise, yacht, island, duty-free shopping, wedding, research and study, parent-child, medical health, MICE, exhibition, sports, culture, ethnic customs, rainforest, high-speed rail, food, countryside, and nighttime tours in Sanya. The travel routes target seven tourism source markets in mainland China and ten tourism source markets outside mainland China. The seven markets include the Pearl River Delta market, the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai market, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei market, the Chengdu-Chongqing market, the Central China market, the Northeast China market, and the Northwest China market. The ten markets outside mainland China include Hong Kong and Macao, the Taiwan market, the Southeast Asia market, the Russia and Central Asia markets, the South Korea market, the Japan market, the Nordic market, the Western Europe market, the Australia and New Zealand market, and the North America market.
According to Wang Jiansheng, Director General of the Sanya Federation of Tourism Associations, the First Greater Sanya Tourism Product Creative Design Competition draws widespread attention and broad engagement. After preliminary examinations, online voting, and expert review, the organizing committee chose 50 outstanding travel routes out of about 200. The routes are all memorable trips for discovering Greater Sanya, sharing great stories, trying great flavors, finding great treasures, creating great content, and having great fun.
As part of the awards ceremony, the organizing committee promoted 10 select travel routes on the scene. Chen Huan, vice-chairman of the Hainan Provincial Intellectual Property Association, also read out measures that could be used to protect the intellectual property of the award-winning routes.

Chen Tiejun, member of the CPC Sanya Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, commented that innovation is a primary driving force in developing Sanya’s tourism sector. Sanya has conducted a series of “innovative products” events since May with the aim of promoting structural reform of tourism supplies and industrial upgrades. Over the past three months, travel operators in Sanya, tourism sites, and online travel operators designed many new Sanya travel routes. Their efforts helped in a greater project to develop Sanya into a demonstration area where the tourism sector consistently undergoes quality growth, and to help make the city into a great place with rich resources, a wide variety of travel brands, a good environment, and distinctive features for international tourism.
Chen Tiejun proposed seven innovative areas that could be used to promote Sanya tourism: quality of service, customer experience, destination products, promotional events, promotion channels, technology, and marketing and communications.
According to Tang Sixian, Conculting Director of the Sanya Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports Bureau, the Sanya city government will launch a three-year plan (2019-2021) that will help support the 50 travel routes. The plan will award the 50 travel routes with titles and bonuses, authorize them to use the “Shenwan” trademark for marketing, and provide support for the marketing of travel routes in a variety of ways.
The competition was hosted by Sanya City, who took the lead and joined hands with Linshui County, Ledong County, and Baoting County governments; hosting duties was also provided by Sanya City, Linshui County, Ledong County, and Baoting County Bureaus of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports; and supported was provided by the Sanya Federation of Tourism Associations and related tourism associations.
