First non-stop air route opens between Sanya and Jakarta
The inaugural flight of the Sanya-Jakarta-Sanya direct air route landed at the Sanya Phoenix International Airport at 12:31 a.m. on August 6th, 2017, carrying 146 Indonesian passengers on board.
Officials from the Sanya Coast Defense Port Office, the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, Sanya Customs, and the Sanya Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Passengers included representatives from the Indonesian Tourism Association, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indonesia Hainan Association, and Indonesia travel operators and media outlets. They received a warm welcome at the airport with gifts and a lion-dance performance.
The new regularly scheduled flight is jointly operated by Hainan United Air Travel Group Co., Ltd., and Jakarta-based Lion Air. Lion Air became the third Southeast Asian airline to operate flights to Sanya after Jetstar Asia Airways and Malindo Air.
The new flight is part of an ongoing effort by Sanya tourism authorities to boost the number of inbound visitors from Southeast Asian tourist markets.
The Sanya-Jakarta-Sanya direct air route, whose flight numbers is JT2780/1, runs three times a week.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Indonesia is among the 26 countries that enjoy Hainan’s visa-free policy. Individuals who possess an Indonesian passport can get a Visa-on-arrival with 25 days’ validity in Hainan, and 15 days validity for tour groups of five or above.
There are over ten million overseas Chinese in Indonesia. About half of them have ancestral roots in South China’s Fujian Province, followed by Guangdong and Hainan.
The Sanya-Jakarta-Sanya route is the first non-stop air route between Sanya and Indonesia, and so far the longest air route from Sanya to a Southeast Asian country. The opening of the Sanya-Jakarta-Sanya air route will significantly shorten travel time and reduce costs for passengers in Hainan and Indonesia, who previously had to make a transfer in Hong Kong or Guangzhou. The new route is expected to boost trade and commerce between Sanya and Indonesia, as well as root-seeking tours for overseas Chinese in Indonesia.
The Sanya-Jakarta-Sanya direct air route is Sanya’s fourth international air route to open this year. The Sanya Phoenix International Airport now has 21 international and regional air routes connecting to 22 cities.
