Invite In: Australian travel operators start 3-day tour in Sanya
On January 9th, 2019, a “China (Sanya) and Australia (Melbourne) Tourism Promotion Event” was held at the Crowne Plaza Sanya City Center.
More than 60 travel operators and media members from Australia were invited to conduct a seven-day inspection tour of Hainan’s rich tourism resources and facilities as part of an effort to develop more tourism products catering to Australian tourists. The destinations of their visit include Haikou, Sanya, Qionghai, and Baoting.
The Sanya event was the Sanya Tourism Development Commission’s first move in 2019 under its “Invite In” marketing strategy.
During the Sanya promotional event, representatives from the Sanya Tourism Development Commission gave presentations about Sanya’s rich natural resources, cozy tropical seaside climate, and charming ethnic culture.
Travel operators from Melbourne were impressed by Sanya’s superior natural resources and accommodation options. More than 35 internationally renowned hotel brands have opened properties in Sanya. They believe that Sanya will be a brand-new vacation destination for Australian tourists.
Pang Yongda, Director of the Marketing Department of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, said that Hainan’s 30-day visa-free travel entry policy for people from 59 countries will bring in more tourists from Australia. He added that Sanya welcomes more airline companies and travel operators to develop Sanya-to-Australia direct air routes. In the meantime, Sanya will actively cooperate with Australian cruise companies to open Australia-to-Sanya cruise routes, in an effort to offer more options for tourists from the two sides.
On December 16th, 2018, Hainan Airlines opened a Haikou-Melbourne direct air route, which runs twice weekly between the two cities. Serviced by an Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, the flights depart Haikou at 6:40 p.m. Beijing Time every Wednesday and Sunday. The return flights leave Melbourne at 9 a.m. local time every Monday and Thursday. The flight numbers are HU483 and HU484. That route is the second Hainan-to-Australia direct air route opened by Hainan Airlines following the Haikou-to-Sydney air route.
