New Copenhagen – London – Sanya air route promoted in Denmark
On August 2nd, 2018, a Sanya tourism promotional campaign was held in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. Representing Sanya at the event was a delegation of Sanya tourism officials led by Xu Zhenling, Deputy Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government.
Officials in attendance at the event included Rabih Azad-Ahmad, Vice Mayor of Aarhus; Kirsten Joergensen, Director of the Aarhus Culture and Tourism Bureau; Julie Brink, Chairman of the Friendship Association of Denmark and China; Andy Hunt, CEO of World Sailing (formerly ISAF); and Zhang Lidong, Chairman of the China Sailing Federation. Representatives from local travel agencies, airlines, and Aarhus media members also attended the event.
During the promotional event, Xu extended her warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to attendees. She then gave an overview of some of the recent developments in Sanya’s tourism industry: she discussed the newly-opened Sanya-London direct air route; Hainan’s new policy allowing travelers from 59 countries to enjoy visa-free access to the island province; the construction of China’s Free Trade Zone (Port); and Sanya’s goal of developing the city into an international consumption center.
Tang Sixian, Consulting Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, gave an overview of Sanya’s tropical seaside tourism resources and distinctive holiday products. He said that with the opening of the first direct flight from Sanya to London, and Hainan’s strategy to allow travelers from 59 countries to enjoy visa-free access to Hainan, it’s now easier than ever for Danish tourists to visit Sanya via the new “Copenhagen-London-Sanya” air route.
In the afternoon, Xu met with Rabih Azad-Ahmad in the Aarhus City Hall, where both sides conducted in-depth discussions on future cooperation opportunities in multiple areas such as culture, tourism, and sports. Rabih Azad-Ahmad said that Sanya and Aarhus share similar seaside tourism resources, and both have strived to develop their culture and tourism industries in recent years.
Xu commented that Danish design enjoys an outstanding worldwide reputation, and she hopes that by combining Danish design with Sanya’s cultural and tourism resources, awareness of Sanya among European tourists will be enhanced. She welcomes Aarhus tourists to spend their holidays in Sanya, especially during winters, and learn more about the charm of Chinese culture surrounded by the beauty of a tropical island province.
The Sanya delegation also attended the reception banquet and opening ceremony of the Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018. Xu exchanged ideas with Kim Andersen, president of World Sailing, on the possibility of Sanya applying to be host city for the 2026 Sailing World Championships. Xu said Sanya successfully hosted the 47th Youth Sailing World Championship in 2017; the city now aims to build itself into an international sailing capital by applying for the 2026 Sailing World Championships. Anderson extended his congratulations to Sanya for the city’s remarkable achievements in the Clipper 2017-18 Race and said that ISFA would fully support Sanya in becoming the host city of the 2026 Sailing World Championships.
