Russian tourists land safely in Sanya after midair scare
A Russian airliner en route from Novosibirsk to Sanya made an emergency landing at the airport of Krasnoyarsk on Sunday after the pilots spotted a crack in the windshield.
Before conducting the landing maneuver, the aircraft had to circle around the airport for several hours in order to dump fuel, while fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the scene. The plane ultimately made a safe landing at 5:24 p.m. local time.
The airline arranged another flight and all passengers continued their journeys, safely landing at the Sanya airport at 1:46 a.m. today.
Fan Mu, Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, led a team to welcome and greet the Russian passengers at the airport who were delayed in their arrival in Sanya due to the aircraft’s mechanical failure.
There were 166 passengers and seven crew members on board, according to the airline.
An investigation into the cause of the windshield crack is being conducted by NordStar Airlines and other authorities.
