Sanya releases tourism industry report for first half of 2018
Sanya has enjoyed strong growth in tourist arrivals over the first six months of 2018. The growth has been fueled by expanding air routes and increases in Sanya’s promotional activities, which have aimed at expanding tourist markets.
The city received 10.275 million tourists in the first six months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 10.18 percent. Tourist arrivals included 9.91 million domestic tourists and 360,800 inbound tourists.
The city’s hotel occupancy rate reached 71.03 percent, up 1.84 percent compared with the same period last year.
From January through June of this year, Sanya experienced a strong bump in tourism revenue, which reached 23.555 billion yuan, a 14.83 percent increase year-on-year.
Fueling the recent growth has been an aggressive strategy to open new international air routes. Sanya now has 24 international and regional air routes, including a Sanya-to-London air route, a Sanya-to-Surabaya air route, and a Sanya-to-Macau air route. The city is also planning to expand its international air network to Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, and Novosibirsk.
To create a safe and sound tourism environment, Sanya has been constantly optimizing its tourism market management system. The city has increased punishments for irregularities in the tourism industry. In the first half of this year, Sanya dealt with 191 tourism complaints and 52 illegal acts affecting tourism.
